Two hundred varieties across the benches, sorted by sun and then by height, so the back of the border is at the back of the house.
The natives get a house of their own: coneflower, bergamot, little bluestem and forty others, grown here from seed and never treated with neonicotinoids.

The bright corner by the register, restocked every Wednesday: monstera, pilea, pothos, ferns, and whatever Ingrid could not leave at the grower's.

Vegetable starts from the first week of March, herbs all year, and berries, asparagus crowns and fruit trees through spring.
The seed rack comes from a grower two counties over, so the varieties are ones that actually ripen here.

Perennials, annuals, vegetables and houseplants. They are priced without a guarantee built in, which is why they cost what they cost.
Deer, voles, and the neighbor's dog. Trees that sat in the pot until July. Plants moved after planting. Drought, when the hose was within reach.
If a plant of ours fails outside the guarantee, bring it in anyway. The diagnosis is free and usually short.

A yard covers about 100 square feet at three inches deep. Half yards are fine if you bring the truck or trailer; we do the loading.
Trellis began on four acres of played-out dairy pasture on Old Mill Road, with one hoop house, a borrowed tractor, and Walt Bergstrom's conviction that the town needed somewhere to buy a tomato plant that had not spent a week on a truck. He sold out of everything by May that first spring and spent the summer building the second house.
His daughter Ingrid grew up pricking out seedlings for a nickel a flat. She took over the growing in 2016 and turned the perennial benches toward natives and pollinator plants, raised here from seed and cuttings and never treated with neonicotinoids. Walt still runs the tree lot, drives the Tuesday delivery route, and does not plan to stop.

The greenhouse stays heated and open all winter. The tree lot closes after Thanksgiving. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
